MARRIAGE SERVICES

The Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno strives to establish a Muslim community where Muslim couples establish a happy family and raise their children in an environment that values the institution of marriage and moral code of  Islam.  Among the goals of the Center is to support couples achieve success, prosperity and happiness in their marriage and provide them with the needed support to maintain the well being of the Muslim family. 

The Center considers the successful marriage as the foundation and the cornerstone of a happy and prosperous family and subsequently a purposeful and vibrant Muslim Community .

 SERVICES

* Islamic marriage services include a religious ceremony for family members and friends. The couple and their families may invite their friends and other  guests to attend the ceremony, which can be conducted at the Center, a hotel banquet hall or at home. Photography and videotaping maybe arranged separately by the couple.

* Marriage counseling is available by request and by appointment with the Imam. This service is provided for married couples as well as couples who are considering getting married.

*  Divorce is discouraged by Islam and should only be sought as a last resort. The Center has no authority to grant a civil divorce. A civil divorce is granted only under the authority of the court. However, the Center will certify a legally granted civil divorce to be recognized according to Islamic law.

ISLAMIC MATRIMONIAL PROCESS

The following is a guide for the civil process and sacramental duties for an Islamic marriage in the State of California:

* You must apply for a Marriage License from a California county office.  For information regarding blood test, fees, license instructions, please contact the city office of your correspondent city.

*  Upon obtaining the Marriage License, contact the Center and make an appointment for your marriage ceremony. On your ceremony day, be sure to bring two Muslim witnesses and the Marriage License.

*  A symbolic donation to the Center is appreciated. Also, a recording fee will be needed to record the marriage at the County Recorder's Office.
