Valley Islamic leader talks about Ramadan
Ramadan has evolved in the central San Joaquin Valley. Mosques hold community events throughout the month.

For nearly a decade, the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno has held a carnival on the Saturday following the end of Ramadan, during a festival that has been called the Muslim equivalent of Christmas. Dalai Lama Meets With Imam Ghazvini
The Dalai Lama urged religious leaders Saturday to reach out to Muslims, saying Islam is a compassionate faith that has been unfairly maligned because of a few extremists. ”Nowadays to some people the Muslim tradition appears more militant,” the 70-year-old exiled monk said at a weekend conference, which aimed to bring Muslims and Buddhists together. Valley reaction: Bin Laden death brings reflection, relief
Valley Muslims greeted news of bin Laden’s death with an “immense sense of relief,” the director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno said Monday.
“Over the past decade, [the center] has stood firm on our stance in condemning the actions of bin Laden on 9/11 and all acts of terror at the hands of al-Qaida,” said Kamal Abu-Shamsieh, director of the center. Read More
Muslim Professor Lives Interfaith Values
Dr. Yahya Michot, professor of Islamic studies and Christian-Muslim relations at Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Conn., is the guest lecturer at this year’s Interfaith Scholar Weekend at the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno.
Dr. Yahya M. Michot will speak Friday through Feb. 21 on the event’s theme, “Islam: A Faith for the 21st Century.” The annual event brings people of various religions together for a weekend of lectures, discussion and worship. Read More

The Salvation Army Fresno Corps and Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno, along with local radio station Mega Oldies 97.9, joined forces to reinforce the message that “Need knows no Creed” in California’s Central Valley and to help feed the farming community in the City of San Joaquin. Read More

ICCF is a proud sponsor of the Japanese American’s Central California District Council and the Pinedale Assembly Center Memorial Project where Americans of Japanese ancestry interned following Executive Order 9066.
On the weekend of February 14 through February 16, 2009, the Central California District Council and the
Pinedale Assembly Center Memorial Project Committee co-hosted the JACL Tri-District Conference and Day of
Remembrance Dinner and the dedication of the Pinedale Assembly Center Memorial. The Tri-District events
